Fishing at Lake Pannecière: fish species, techniques, competitions and events
Lake Pannecière is the largest and most fish‑rich lake in the Morvan. Classified in 2nd category, it is private domain and offers many spots that make it a typical lake for predator fishing. Whitefish are abundant with record specimens. The lake has many inlets and coves, sometimes only accessible by boat (depending on the period).
The lake is a reservoir. From the end of July, the dam gates are opened to feed the Yonne, and the water level drops. Near your gîte there will always remain a river, and a few kilometers away there is always enough water to fish. By late November the gates are closed again and the water level rises.

A fishing license is mandatory. You can buy your license at Camping Les Soulins. If the campsite is closed, please ask the Tourist Office.
🐟 What fish can you catch in Lake Pannecière?
Carp — The lake is renowned for its large carp, popular with specialist anglers who set up night sessions along the many accessible banks.
Pike — The lake's emblematic predator, typically caught with lures or live bait, especially in the shallower inlets.
Zander (pike-perch) — Present in good numbers, mostly caught with soft lures, particularly at dusk and dawn.
Whitefish — Roach, bream, ide and perch are abundant, sometimes reaching impressive sizes: ideal for float fishing, suitable for beginners and children.

Lake Pannecière and the surrounding area regularly host fishing competitions and events organised by local associations and the Tourist Office: carp fishing competitions, family discovery days, and fishing-themed activities during the summer season.

What is the best time of year to fish?
Spring and autumn are particularly good for predator fish (pike, zander), while summer is well suited to whitefish and carp fishing.

Can I fish directly from the gîte?
The lake is about 100 metres on foot from our eco-gîtes — several fishing spots are reachable without needing a car.
Do I need a boat to fish on the lake?
No, many spots are accessible from the bank. Some inlets and coves are only reachable by boat, depending on the water level.
